Question: When God through His Covenant established the nation of Israel through Moses, did the Israelites really understand that it will involve a resurrection?
IMO, no!
Their lack of understanding, and also of fidelity, is well summarised in the Book of Malachi, where also is the promise of Almighty God’s Saving of the faithful of Israel, from Malachi 3:16 to 4:6!
Although they were given much information by Moses etc. initially, and by Paul later in his 1st role as Apostle to the Jews, they are almost totally wayward! As he explains later his changeover to “Apostle to the Gentiles” in Romans 9–11, because of the Jewish rejection of Jesus as Messiah, they are temporarily rejected by Almighty God, (Lo-Ammi; Not My People); which will remain until Zech. 12:10; which coincides with the completion of the “Gentile period” (Rom. 11:25–27), and leads to the God initiated restoration to “Ammi”; My People!
The “Lo-Ammi” condition will remain with the Jews until the events of Zech.12:10; when the Nation of Israel will be saved and “resurrected”; and also Christ Jesus will descend to Earth again, to establish the Jews finally as “His Chosen People” in Jerusalem, and to Judge the Nations of the World, for their rejection of Messiah Christ Jesus, and their persecution of the nation of Israel; Matt. 25!
